Los Cabos’ gorgeous weather and abundant marine life, make it the perfect spot for sportfishing lovers. Thanks to the closed season and regulations made to protect species, we can enjoy organized sportfishing in this destination.
Bob Bisbee used to come down to Los Cabos frequently, where he met up with friends who shared his passion for fishing. In 1981, he came up with the idea of organizing small tournaments along with the pioneers of the hotel industry.
Thirty-two years later, Bisbee’s Black and Blue tournament has increased not only in the number of teams registered, which started at 6 and is now close to 200, stemming from every corner on the world. This year, TV networks will be broadcasting in paradise from October 18 to 22, creating an unprecedented media exposure.
This tournament stands out for giving one of the biggest cash payouts in sportfishing, with millions of dollars in its purse. The qualifying species are blue and black Marlin. However, striped Marlin, sailfish and swordfish are also awarded, but only as part of the “catch & release” category.
Bisbee’s Black and Blue tournament is a five-day fishing thrill!
The lively and modern Cabo San Lucas’ marina gets crowded with thousands of people shopping, partying and watching huge Marlins being weighed in. For all participants, it’s a once in a lifetime experience, whether you take home memories or millions.
